  17. If you want up-to-date information, phone an AIDS helpline, such as the
  18. National AIDS Helpline (which is free).  BUt here are some other things
  19. you should know. Caveat: I don't have the latest info, I'm not an expert
  20. and I've never worked in AIDS counselling or education.

  22. If you use sex toys in penetrative sex, either don't use them on anyone else,
  23. cover them with latex, or wash them thoroughly in hot soapy water between
  24. users.

  26. Don't share hypodermic needles.  Or razors or toothbrushes.  If you can't
  27. get enough needles for everyone to have one each, wash them in bleach and
  28. rinse in water between users.

  30. Avoid amounts of drugs that lead you to act irresponsibly in sexual
  31. situations.  Remember that drugs often give you a false sense of competence,
  32. including your ability to handle more of the drug.

  34. Monogamy is safe, provided you know that you and your partner are HIV-,
  35. which involves two tests 6 months apart, and provided that both of you
  36. remain honest enough to tell the other if you ever do have unsafe sex
  37. outside the relationship.

  41. I've never heard of a case of HIV tranmission by kissing.  There has been
  42. much discussion on how safe oral sex is; rthe current "line" is that you
  43. should use latex barriers.  This is especially true if you have mouth ulcers
  44. or if your gums bleed (e.g. when you brush your teeth).
