- Well, homophobia in this country is, to a large extent, propogated (if
- not originated) by the authorities -- eg the police have a "It's not
- serious enough to be too bothered with" attitude to queer-bashing. The
- Beeb frequently get attacked by the government for supposed bias towards
- the opposition etc, and in the current climate of upheavals in broadcasting,
- they (the Beeb) are trying not to draw too much flak to themselves. Doing
- this sort of thing to America is alright, because it's foreign ground. The
- same sort of programme about this country would create an outcry, and the
- sort of fuss the Beeb want to avoid....
