  19. Well, homophobia in this country is, to a large extent, propogated (if
  20. not originated) by the authorities -- eg the police have a "It's not
  21. serious enough to be too bothered with" attitude to queer-bashing.  The
  22. Beeb frequently get attacked by the government for supposed bias towards
  23. the opposition etc, and in the current climate of upheavals in broadcasting,
  24. they (the Beeb) are trying not to draw too much flak to themselves.  Doing
  25. this sort of thing to America is alright, because it's foreign ground. The
  26. same sort of programme about this country would create an outcry, and the
  27. sort of fuss the Beeb want to avoid....
