- There are some very supportive, sensitive and thoughtful posters in
- soc.motss. On the other hand, they are regularly visited by major
- homophobes (luckily(?), most of these either don't believe in or don't
- care about bis.) Like the out lesbian and gay community at large,
- they get edgy, defensive, and generally frustrated. When I post to
- soc.motss, I take great care with phrasing and sprinkle liberally with
- "IMHO", "your mileage may vary", and ":-)", as appropriate. I very
- occasionally get flamed by someone who is just too tightly wound in
- general that day. I deal with it in as positive a way as I can and go
- on. I don't choose to post there often.
-
- Since I like something in between the run-of-the-mill of either, I
- read both similarly. When a thread seems to have slipped below the
- surface, whether fluffiness or flames, I pop it into my kill file and
- go to the next one.
-
- This allows me to keep track of much of what is going on in both
- groups without (a) trying to read everything and getting overwhelmed,
- or (b) getting too depressed or upset to live the rest of my life with
- the flexibility and openness that I want to.
-
- IMHO. Your mileage may vary. :-)
