- As I promised, this is the bi-positive strip which was published (in
- the Southern Voice, around here) this week.
-
- Does anyone know where we can write Ms. Bechdel to thank her for
- making bisexuals less invisible ?

- DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR -- THE SIGHTING (#149)
- by Alison Bechdel
-
- Copied without permission
-
- Panel One: "Mo has managed to heave herself far enough from the
- _slough_ of _despond_ to make it to her workshift at the Co-op."
-
- Panel Two:
- Mo: "Okay, Naomi . . . The dried, unsulphured, organic burdock chips
- are all restocked."
- Naomi: "Great. Now do the sulphured, commercial ones, then the
- wheat-free tamari-roasted transitional prunes."
-
- Panel Three:
- Ginger: "Mo! You've resurfaced! I thought we'd lost you for a while
- there. You feeling better about the breakup?"
- Mo: "No. I feel like slashing Harriet's tires. Y'know, I think she
- might be seeing someone."
-
- [Subtext: Child says "I want refined sugar!" Mother: "Shh! Not here!"]
-
- Panel Four:
- Ginger: "Really? Are you two talking?"
- Mo: "Uh-uh. She needs to have 'a period of no contact.' Ha! I'll show
- her no contact! So what's going on with you? Still involved with that
- woman ?
-
- Panel Five:
- Ginger [with cocked eyebrow]: "Uh. . . Yeah, why?"
-
- Panel Six:
- Mo [with arm around Ginger, speaking as if in confidence]: "Take it
- from one who knows, Ginger, and end it _now_ before you make each
- other _miserable_."
- Clarice [rounding the aisle]: "Oops! Looks like I'm in the _grim
- advice_ aisle. . . . I was looking for _lurid gossip_"
-
- Panel Seven:
- Ginger: "Hi, Clarice! Did Toni send you out for pickles and ice cream?"
- Clarice: "I wish. No, I'm buying all this healthy shit for her . . . I
- mean _our_ new diet. No more greasy takeout barbeque till the kid's
- weaned . . . Hey, have you two heard the word on Naomi?"
-
- Panel Eight:
- [Our heroines are in a huddle.]
- Ginger: "What about her?"
- Clarice [with a smug look]: "Boyfriend."
- Mo [with look of horror] : "No!"
-
- Panel Nine:
- Clarice [still smug]: "Yes! And as if that's not bad enough,
- she's starting up a bisexual support group!"
- Ginger [with some indignation]: "Oh, come on! Is this junior high
- school? So she's bisexual! Big deal! And what's wrong with starting a
- group?"
- Mo [perhaps still angry from before]: "Well for _one_ thing, they're
- always making us change the _names_ of things to include them! It's .
- . . it's _awkward._"
-
- Panel Ten:
- [Two hands posting a notice which reads,"Hey! The Local Organizing
- Committee for the 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi
- Equal Rights and Liberation, etc. Needs you now! Community Meeting . .
- ."]
-
- Panel Eleven:
- [Our heroines look askance at the bulletin board.]
- Ginger: "Uh-oh. Red alert at the bulletin board. It's _Harriet_ . . .
- and someone else."
-
- End of strip.
