  28. Ran into a similar situation a few years ago.  Maryn and I had been getting
  29. very close and were about to start dating when I went to England for a week
  30. with the Wind Ensemble. While I was gone, she picked up a guy at a party and
  31. they started going out.  When I got back, she had left me a note saying that
  32. she knew I wouldn't want to see her anymore and she understood why our 
  33. friendship can't continue.  For some reason, most women (that I run into, at
  34. least) Assume that all guys want is a relationship and that we can't develop
  35. a close friendship until after the breakup.  Now, I've gotten some good friends
  36. this way but it's a stupid attitude to have.  
  37.     Incidentally, Maryn and I went on to become better friends because of
  38. this.  Unfortunately she moved last year and didn't tell me this so I have no
  39. way of contacting her.  The first person I ever really loved and I've lost her
  40. completely.  *sigh*
