-
- SeaFirst downtown, especially the two main branches that handle foreign
- exchange, seems to give a fair rate for *all* non-USA currencies, including
- Canadian dollars. You will still lose something if you convert US to CAN
- dollars, then convert back. Love the way they try to get you coming and
- going.
-
- The best rate is not obtainable in a bank's lobby, in any case. Your PLUS
- Cirrus, or Exchange card is usable in Canada, especially the PLUS. The rate
- for getting money out of a bank machine (ATM) will be extremely close to
- that quoted in the Wall Street Journal's foreign-exchange column for that
- day; for a sufficiently large transaction, the service fee for using an
- out-of-country machine will be less than 1% of the total.
-
- In the case of PLUS or Cirrus, this is true all over the world; the PLUS
- card has been useful in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, and the UK.
- The more, the merrier!
