- to be about 1 million. You can be diagnosed with AIDS--and that is

- I posted on this recently in sci.med.aids. Basically, the number is
- very difficult to estimate, and one million is too convenient a ballpark
- figure to dislodge without hard details. The later numbers are based
- on greater information regarding seroprevalence and disease progression,
- and in fact, the CDC now retroactively estimates that about 750,000
- Americans were HIV+ as of Jan 1986.
