  23.   Strong stuff, but a couple of points are due.

  25. (1)  There is a large number of moderated newsgroups out there.
  26.      How did they come about?
  27.      Let us not forget that one of the roles the moderators would play
  28.      is to weed out the more vicious replies. If this is coupled with
  29.      a sufficiently broad-minded approach to what questions can
  30.      be asked, the end result may be quite positive. Let us give it
  31.      some time to see if it works.

  33. (2)  We live in an information age, where all of us are overloaded.
  34.      If you think of it, FAQ's are a way to deter people from posting;
  35.      regular users do not wish to see the same elementary stuff
  36.      rehashed over and over.
  37.      Surely, it has not escaped anyone that the majority of
  38.      current postings deal with foundational issues of physics,
  39.      and there is precious little that is related to what the
  40.      majority of physical scientists (either practitioners
  41.      or interested observers) would care about on a regular basis.
  42.      Why is it so unreasonable to somewhat limit that stuff
  43.      on one  group, so those of us who do not think of these
  44.      matters on regular basis have enough breathing space to
  45.      talk about other things?
