- In sci.physics you write:
-
- >I'm for a moderated physics gorup. But looking at the posted CV only
- >John Baez is really qualified by formal training. Johnson is next best
- >but he is an experimentalist and most of stuff is theory. It would be
- >good to have a separate experimental conference. Dale Bass does not even
- >have a Ph.D. and his field is not physics but engineering. And the other
- >fellow is more a chemist than a physicist.
-
- >I don't believe I read this ...if this was said 100 years ago I would
- >have...This is a narrowmindedness of which one thought it would be
- >extinct.
-
- Patrick this is a very silly comment. We are talking about a "physics"
- conference, so it seems reasonable that the moderators be physicists and
- not engineers or chemists and that they already have Ph.Ds in physics not
- some related subject.
-
- >I am a theorist myself at the moment and working for my PhD.
- >of course mr. sarfatti thinks that physics is the only science in the
- >world,
-
- This is a non-sequitor - we are talking about a physics conference in case
- that relevant fact has slipped your mind.
-
- >and of those the REAL scientists must be theorists...
-
- This is a total distortion of the context of my remark. I suggested two
- conferences one for theory and one for experiment. The fact is that the
- activity is mostly theoretical or pedagogical.
-
- >I wonder where he obtains his money from..
-
- None of your business.
-
- >from other theorical physicists ? or from society. In that case let him
- >explain to society why HE is so magnificent and all the others aren't..
- >and in case he can't.... ahh.. well.. he might be able to do theoretical
- >work from an umeployment fee..(or whatever you call it there I'm dutch ..
- >).THAT would suit him right I think. So I think these are enough words
- >wasted on arrogance, cheerio,
- >Patrick Slavenburg
-
- I would like to add, that although Baez is certainly qualified, he has his
- own agenda and since he is a major contributor of postings it is not enough
- that he be the only theorist moderator - the other three moderators are not
- competent to judge Baez's posts. In effect, then, sci.physics.research will
- be John's private journal - not that his stuff is not good.
