- This has been discussed on and off in soc.culture.canada. Plus there
- have been a number of American and Canadian television presentations on
- comparisons of the US and Canadian health systems.
-
- There are many pros and cons, and if the radio talk show wasn't able to
- bring up the numerous negative points, then it was incompetently run.
- One notion that keeps coming up is that the Canadian system couldn't
- function as is without having the American medical service suppliers
- just over the border to provide timely procedures to paying Canadian
- patients. One recent TV report showed where the New Brunswick health
- ministry itself contracted with suppliers in Maine for radiation
- treatments that simply weren't available in that region. And so forth.
-
- The American system has big time problems that are regularly discussed
- nowadays, but it has to be noted that the Canadian model is definitely
- not without its own serious problems and couldn't be adapted neatly.
