  14. First, I think that some people in places such as Victoria and Regina, to 
  15. name just two, would be very upset to hear that "there are only four cities 
  16. west of the Great Lakes in Canada." This just promotes the image of Canada 
  17. as a great wasteland of hicks, a very common view "south of the border."

  19. Second, I think that for the vast majority of Canadians, the healthcare 
  20. system is completely adequate. It is simple to see a doctor at anytime of 
  21. the day or night, and treatment is prompt. I know of noone who experienced 
  22. delays in getting much-needed procedures, although things like elective 
  23. surgery do usually take time. CAT-scans and MRI's are widely available (even 
  24. on "the rock" - Newfoundland), and there are very few procedures for which 
  25. one must travel to the States (mostly experimental).

  27. I do agree that, without the great wealth of resources in the States, Canada 
  28. would not be able to maintain its current system. However I also know that 
  29. in a border town in New Brunswick it was found that, after issuing new 
  30. health cards numbers, a large portion of the so-called residents of the town 
  31. were actually Americans using false addresses. We must be doing something 
  32. right :-) !
