- The intent of this post is not to seek diagnosis, but to
- gather any alternative ideas with which to discuss with
- my doctor.
-
- I became ill approximately 2 months ago: large amounts of
- gas, diarrhea, and painful stomach cramps, especially in
- my lower right abdomen. The time from the first sign of
- any symptoms to the time I needed to seek medical help was
- approximately 3 weeks. My physician suspected a
- parasitic infection (I won't even try to spell it):
- gee-ar-dia. After a negative stool sample, the diagnosis
- became IBS. I began taking Librax 3 times daily.
-
- The Librax relieved the diarrhea, but the gas and cramps
- remain. The efficacy of the Librax seems to be waning as
- time goes by, as well.
-
- After reading up about IBS/Librax, and related info,
- it seems that IBS is not something characterized by
- such a rapid onset. My own dietary changes (abstinence
- from dairy products/fats/etc) have not had an impact,
- which also seems to contradict IBS. I have not had
- a major "stress" event in recent memory, either.
-
- My question, then, would be: does IBS seem to be a
- sensible diagnosis in this case? Does IBS sometimes
- have such a rapid onset? Are there alternatives
- that I should discuss with my physician? One
- could reasonably argue that I should be having THIS
- discussion with my physician, and I somewhat agree.
- But, being cold and flu season, the appointment will
- be days away at best (non-critical), so I thought
- I might poll the net before scheduling a followup.
-
- My thanks in advance for any help you might offer.
- E-mail or post, as desired.
-
- Regards,
-
