  33. That's the verse I had in mind.

  35. A similar verse is Proverbs 8:27. The King James says "When he prepared
  36. the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass on the face of the deep."
  37. The RSV translates the original Hebrew more accurately as "...when he drew
  38. a circle on the face of the deep".

  40. Of course, all the Biblical writers were simply following the `cosmology'
  41. of the time, which pictured the Earth as a circular surface, covered by a
  42. tent-like sky to which the sun, planets & stars were attached. Various
  43. other verses speak of `stars falling to Earth' & similar occurrences.

  45. Anyway, this thread has strayed away from pi & no longer belongs in
  46. sci.math
