- Thank you. This is exactly the context in which the question came up.
- Our lecturer listed:

- Graphite sp2
- Amorphous carbon (soot) sp2 (some sp3)
- Diamond sp3

- and we said 'What about sp3 (some sp2)?'
- and he said 'Ah! That's amorphous diamond'

- Which as you say, sounds like a contradiction in terms.
