-
- =o= This kind of tactic -- "surveys" with loaded phrases --
- is used by all kinds of political groups, not just environ-
- mentalists. They tend to be cooked up by marketing types
- in the "direct (i.e., junk) mail" business.
-
- =o= I abhor these things. Indeed, I not only abhor junk mail,
- but I especially abhor junk mail that insults my intelligence.
-
- =o= Fortunately, there's something you can do about it. Over
- in alt.save.the.earth, Cameron Spitzer has made an offer to
- convey complaints from net.users to Greenpeace:
-
- I've mentioned my concerns, and those which appear in these
- newsgroups, to Greenpeace volunteers at every opportunity
- and they always tell me to pursue these complaints through
- the proper channels within Greenpeace.
-
- I've finally got what I think is the right name and address
- within the global hierarchy which uses the Greenpeace
- trademarks, and I'm ready to digestify reasonable complaints
- in hopes "Greenpeace" will respond to us. Compose your
- brief, even-tempered, well-informed concerns, and mail
- them to:
-
- greenpeace-knocks@truffula.sj.ca.us
-
- and I'll see what I can do.
-
- =o= Cameron will collect these "knocks" for a few weeks, post a
- digest or summary of them, send them off to Greenpeace, and post
- Greenpeace's response. Don't bother sending angry or hateful or
- malicious messages, and do keep them as short as possible
