  26. I am NOT in general agreement with Mr. Polen, but...

  28. Back in the early 1970s, David Bergamini wrote a history of the coverup
  29. of Hirohito's involvement in World War II policy called _Japan's
  30. Imperial Conspiracy_.  When it came out, it was roundly denounced.
  31. Now, much of what Bergamini found is recognized as being probably
  32. true.  Bergamini interviewed members of the wartime government who
  33. told him that tremendous wealth belonging to Hirohito was transferred
  34. to what are now the large Japanese corporations to protect that wealth
  35. from confiscation by the U.S.  Bergamini was also told that Hirohito
  36. had made it clear that after the war, Japan would put its energies
  37. into economic warfare against the U.S., and that it might take a
  38. hundred years to accomplish his goals.

  40. I'm not sure that Crichton's _Rising Sun_ is entirely fantasy.
