  14. SYMPOSIUM ON AUTOMATED MODELING FOR DESIGN

  20. The Modeling and Identification Technical Panel of the Dynamic Systems
  21. and Control Division of ASME is sponsoring a symposium to address the
  22. current issues in developing automated modeling environments for
  23. design.  The symposium will be held at the 1993 ASME Winter Annual
  24. Meeting.
  25.  
  26. Topics: The topics to be addressed may include: general modeling,
  27. analysis and simulation methodologies (both the synthesis and the
  28. selection problem) for creating models for What If? design studies.
  29. Methods for computing relevant performance metrics and integrating
  30. these metrics with design specifications (e.g., with QFD
  31. technologies).  Techniques for model validation/verification; model
  32. reduction and augmentation strategies; and definitions of model
  33. quality.

  35. Objectives: The objectives of the symposium include: providing a forum
  36. for researchers from the physical system modeling, automated modeling
  37. and qualitative reasoning, design, design theory and methodology, and
  38. CAE (simulation) communities to discuss their ideas and to compare
  39. their goals, strategies, vocabulary etc.  To encourage participants-to
  40. identify important research issues and engineering hurdles.  To
  41. introduce new researcher to the field.

  46. Papers accepted for publication are also eligible for publication in
  47. the Journal of Dynamic Systems Measurement and Control.  Those wishing
  48. to select this option should indicate so in a cover letter submitted
  49. with their manuscript.  Because the review process for the Journal
  50. takes longer than the review for the symposium, manuscripts will be
  51. sent on to the Journal office at the conclusion of the symposium
  52. review process along with the reviews obtained from the symposium
  53. review.
