- The composition of smog here is much different than in LA. Unlike in LA,
- the smog season in Denver is the winter. The smog is heavily composed
- of particulates from the gravel used on the streets, believe it or not.
- Inversion layers are also more common in the winter.
- Smog alerts are based on visibility measurements rather than on
- measurements of individual pollutants. This is why wood stoves are
- a major contributor. Driving is discouraged during alerts so that
- less gravel will get kicked up.
