- I have a ViewStar cable box with baseband video and mono audio outputs.
- I'd like to add stereo outputs to the unit through an MTS decoder chip.
- I've checked a couple data books, but can't find any with what I'm looking
- for. Ideally it would be something that would take the audio IF (which
- hopefully is available inside the ViewStar box somewhere!) as input, and
- the output of the IC would just be simple line-level audio (in stereo!).
-
- Or:
- Audio
- IF ::::::::::::::--->--- L audio output
- ---->-------: Mystery IC :
- from tuner ::::::::::::::--->--- R audio output
-
- [I'm assuming that by the time the mono audio is generated, the MTS
- information is lost. If not, then something that would convert line-
- level audio to MTS stereo would be great, too.]
-
- In the data books I've looked at, they all seem to have outputs that then
- require the signals be passed through an FM decoder, or some other
- extra converter, etc. Are there any "simple" MTS decoder chips available?
- If not, a recommended "combo" would be fine.
-
- Any info would be appreciated... I will summarize replies to the net, and
- if I get the circuit working with the ViewStar, I'll post instructions so
- others can do the mod -- I know there's a BIG demand for baseband video
- and MTS stereo cable boxes! (Or alternatively, a device which takes
- "Channel 3 Input" and provides baseband video/stereo audio outputs. I
- asked about this on the net a couple months ago and everybody said "buy
- a VCR". I have a VCR, I don't have room for another one [even if it is
- broken!] I just want a small, low-cost "black box" that hangs off the
- back of my current CATV converter so I can use the 'Aux' channel on my VCR
- [read: the video input on the back] instead of having it tuned to channel
- 3 all the time!! Since there were no other suggestions there, this is my
- next idea.)
-
- So... any info on a nice, easy-to-use MTS decoder chip would be
- appreciated! Thanks.
