Another strong possibility is a bad solder joint for the red drive connection
to the small pcb mounted at the rear of the CRT. It should be labelled "r" or
"red". For some reason there's a high failure rate for solder joints on this
pcb, possibly caused by vibration of the CRT. I fixed a color TV that I scrounged from the neighbor's trash by locating and resoldering two bad solder joints
