- I don't know about Texas, but California has a very high percentage of
- immigrants from all over the world.
-
- There are large populations of Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Italians, &
- Portughese who originally came here after the gold rush. More recently, there
- are additional waves of immigrants from China, Taiwan, teh Phillipines,
- Vietnam, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Central America, and more recently the various
- ex-Soviet countries. There are also many Indians, Persians, and others
- to add to this melting pot.
-
- This is in addition to the steady stream of European immigrants such as myself.
-
- In any Silicon VAlley company, you will find a typical department has
- people from all over the world. MAny people speak more than one language, and
- often the second language is an Asian rather than a European language. The most
- common second language of course is Spanish, and almost everyone knows a few
- words.
-
- I would be very surprised if the US does not in fact have the highest immigrant
- population of any developed nation.
