  25. I don't know about Texas, but California has a very high percentage of
  26. immigrants from all over the world.

  28. There are large populations of Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Italians, &
  29. Portughese who originally came here after the gold rush. More recently, there
  30. are additional waves of immigrants from China, Taiwan, teh Phillipines,
  31. Vietnam, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Central America, and more recently the various
  32. ex-Soviet countries. There are also many Indians, Persians, and others
  33. to add to this melting pot.

  35. This is in addition to the steady stream of European immigrants such as myself.

  37. In any Silicon VAlley company, you will find a typical department has
  38. people from all over the world. MAny people speak more than one language, and
  39. often the second language is an Asian rather than a European language. The most
  40. common second language of course is Spanish, and almost everyone knows a few
  41. words.

  43. I would be very surprised if the US does not in fact have the highest immigrant
  44. population of any developed nation.
