  29. POSITION: Nominations and applications are being sought for the
  30. position of Department Head for the Department of Finance and
  31. Economics at Mississippi State University. The position is based
  32. on a twelve-month contract with a starting date of July 1, 1993.

  34. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in 
  35. an appropriate field and an established, sustained record of teaching, 
  36. research, and service which will qualify the individual for the rank 
  37. of Professor in the department.

  39. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred qualifications include
  40. demonstrated teaching excellence at the baccalaureate, masters, and
  41. doctoral levels; an appreciation for and achievement in scholarly
  42. research and publications; and a proven record of service, including
  43. fund raising and the development of external grants and contracts,
  44. consulting, and seminars. Administrative and leadership experience, 
  45. the ability to articulate goals and implement strategies, and 
  46. excellent communication skills are also desirable.

  48. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department Head is expected to provide the
  49. academic and administrative leadership necessary to sustain and
  50. improve a dynamic and respected academic unit consistent with the
  51. mission of a land grant institution.  The Department Head is also
  52. expected to work effectively with students, faculty, and admin-
  53. istrators throughout the College and University and with the business
  54. community; recruit, develop, and retain faculty; and handle budgeting,
  55. fund raising, curriculum and program development issues. The
  56. Department Head has some limited teaching responsibilities, reports 
  57. to the Dean, and serves on the College Executive Council with the
  58. purpose of providing input regarding the overall administrative
  59. operations of the College.

  61. SALARY: The salary will be AACSB competitive.
  62.  
  63. UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT: Mississippi State University enrolls
  64. approximately 13,800 students. The College of Business and Industry
  65. is AACSB accredited and has about 2,600 undergraduate majors, 200
  66. masters students, and 70 doctoral students. The Department of
  67. Finance and Economics consists of 20 faculty and offers undergraduate
  68. majors in banking and finance, economics, insurance, and real estate.
  69. The faculty participate in the MBA program and the doctoral major and
  70. minor programs in both economics and finance.
