- POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

- College of Business and Industry
- Mississippi State University

- POSITION: Nominations and applications are being sought for the
- position of Department Head for the Department of Finance and
- Economics at Mississippi State University. The position is based
- on a twelve-month contract with a starting date of July 1, 1993.

- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in
- an appropriate field and an established, sustained record of teaching,
- research, and service which will qualify the individual for the rank
- of Professor in the department.

- DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred qualifications include
- demonstrated teaching excellence at the baccalaureate, masters, and
- doctoral levels; an appreciation for and achievement in scholarly
- research and publications; and a proven record of service, including
- fund raising and the development of external grants and contracts,
- consulting, and seminars. Administrative and leadership experience,
- the ability to articulate goals and implement strategies, and
- excellent communication skills are also desirable.

- RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department Head is expected to provide the
- academic and administrative leadership necessary to sustain and
- improve a dynamic and respected academic unit consistent with the
- mission of a land grant institution. The Department Head is also
- expected to work effectively with students, faculty, and admin-
- istrators throughout the College and University and with the business
- community; recruit, develop, and retain faculty; and handle budgeting,
- fund raising, curriculum and program development issues. The
- Department Head has some limited teaching responsibilities, reports
- to the Dean, and serves on the College Executive Council with the
- purpose of providing input regarding the overall administrative
- operations of the College.

- SALARY: The salary will be AACSB competitive.

- UNIVERSITY AND DEPARTMENT: Mississippi State University enrolls
- approximately 13,800 students. The College of Business and Industry
- is AACSB accredited and has about 2,600 undergraduate majors, 200
- masters students, and 70 doctoral students. The Department of
- Finance and Economics consists of 20 faculty and offers undergraduate
- majors in banking and finance, economics, insurance, and real estate.
- The faculty participate in the MBA program and the doctoral major and
- minor programs in both economics and finance.
