- My organic prof was trying to explain the basics of spectroscopy to
- our class and one student was simply not understanding the concept
- behind the effect of the lightwaves on the hydrogen (specifically
- NMR). Dr. B, kind and gentle fellow that he is, asked the
- student if he had ever cooked anything in a microwave.

- The student's prompt response was,"nothing except my sister's cat."
- Rather than reacting (pun wholly intended) violently, Dr. B
- used the cat as the substance for explanation, ie, how the
- microwaves caused the rotation of the H's in the water of the
- cat to change. For the entire rest of the lecture, chemical toonces
- was the topic of conversation...
