  12. My organic prof was trying to explain the basics of spectroscopy to
  13. our class and one student was simply not understanding the concept
  14. behind the effect of the lightwaves on the hydrogen (specifically 
  15. NMR).  Dr. B, kind and gentle fellow that he is, asked the
  16. student if he had ever cooked anything in a microwave.

  18. The student's prompt response was,"nothing except my sister's cat."
  19. Rather than reacting (pun wholly intended) violently, Dr. B
  20. used the cat as the substance for explanation, ie, how the 
  21. microwaves caused the rotation of the H's in the water of the
  22. cat to change.  For the entire rest of the lecture, chemical toonces
  23. was the topic of conversation...
