- Its probably OK, if you want the books.

-
- Mostly. A couple of hints for dealing with book clubs: Think of the book club as a
- giant computer with a simple program. You get good service so long as you don't do
- anything unusual. Keep the original box that your books come in, open it carefully
- so you can reuse it, if necessary. To return an unwanted book, just write "return
- to sender" on the outside, scratch off your name, and drop it in the mail. The
- packages have the postal permit and state "return postage guaranteed".

- You should have. Its not a gift, its part of your agreement. In this
- case you are left with not altertative but to attempt communication
- with a real person =:O ! Some clubs have a toll free number, most
- have a regular number. This is the easiest way to get a resolution.
- For letters, the address to send communications is usually different
- from the book and order address. I've joined and un-joined at least 20
- book clubs in the past 10 years, but I've never actually sent a letter
- to one. Sometimes I resign and re-join after a few years if they come
- up with a good offer. One book club I'm in has a discount that
- increases as you buy books; probably an incentive to cut down on the
- joining and un-joining phenomena. I know its caused me to retain my
- membership.
-
- Another little known trick is that some book clubs have a membership
- category in which they send you the little bulletins and cards,
- but they DO NOT send anything unless you ask for it. I've gotten
- promoted to this 'gold club' by threatening to cancel my
- membership after buying several books over a few year period. Its
- really convenient not to worry about sending those $(%# little
- cards back every 5 weeks. One *might* be able to get this service
- by asking.
