- On the FidoNet side of things this looks like all the other message areas on
- the BBS. People who post on the FidoNet BBSes generally have no easy way
- of addressing personal mail to Usenet recipients. As a result, you'll
- occassionally see messages posted that should have been sent through private
- email.
-
- I am the moderator of the SKYDIVE group on the FidoNet side. All of
- the gating to FidoNet is directed through the FidoNet<->Usenet gateway
- which I operate. It's not an ideal situation, but at least it opens up a
- channel of communication between the have's and the have-not's :)
- Since the systems in FidoNet are generally less strictly controlled than
- Usenet systems, it is necessary for the Usenet readers to be a little
- more tolerant than usual of minor breaches of Usenet etiquette. You can
- flame me for posting the article you referred to above; I looks like I should
- have zapped it before it got through ... ah well ... everyone goes low
- occassionally :):)
-
- You may want to note for future reference that all the traffic from FidoNet
- has a Reply-To: line that *does* contain the FidoNet poster's internet address.
- This is not the same address that appears in the actual header (I am working
- on correcting this), so you cannot auto-reply. Look for the address listed
- on the Reply-to: line *in the message text* next time and you'll see the
- poster's FidoNet address.
-
- Hope this helps...
