- An article in today's Sunday San Francisco Examiner reported that Lake
- Tahoe businesses are complaining that media reports have scared off tourists
- from visiting the area at a time of the best snowfall in years.
-
- Businesses have apparently complained about weather reports on local TV
- stations in California, especially in the Bay Area, where a large number of
- skiiers come from. The reports are exaggerated, according to businesses.
-
- The businesses have also complained that the highway patrol and Caltrans have
- needlessly shut down roads leading to the resort area.
-
- Public officials cite public safety concerns; weather broadcasters say they
- have a responsibility to look after the public's safety as well.
-
- Public officials also said that sometimes Tahoe's weather is all right, while
- up the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada, it may be snowing buckets.
-
- Anyone notice a drop off in skiiers on the slopes? Maybe now's a good time to
- get up there.
