  24. The eve before the legislature votes on it, with victory for the bill
  25. clearly in sight, some official spokes man from Our Favorite Religion will
  26. make a statement to the effect that some of his cronies fear that passage
  27. of such a law would cause members to stop having kids (mutiply and
  28. replenish the earth) and maybe not pay their tithing (10% off the top from
  29. you income).  Come voting time, all those supporters will have suddenly
  30. disappeared, and the bill will be defeated by a landslide.  No joke!  This
  31. is precisely what happened with the flat tax bill a few years back.
