  17.     they should blame mother nature in terms of the timing of her
  18.     precipitations. After many postponments, i went on Sun 1.17, it was
  19.     pouring in the Bay area thru Sacto and the Caltrans phone (800 
  20.     427ROAD) said chains required. I was preparing myself to mentally 
  21.     suffer thru the "chains-on syndrome" but surprise! when i    got 
  22.     past Placerville, no chains required.    I wouldn't blame Caltrans. 
  23.     They did a great job given the conditions and that many drivers  
  24.     don't have the foggiest idea about traction, kinetic energy etc...
  25.     As for the media, always take the news with a grain of _wheat_, salt 
  26.     is bad for you.
