- I've been reading the postings about the gear used by Cousteau
- divers. I wonder why they don't wear BCs as safety devices if
- for no other reason. The older packs had three steel tanks
- and a built in regulator. A few years ago US Divers marketed
- what they called the ABS - Advanced Breathing System. This is
- a plastic case with three 30cuft aluminum tanks and a triple
- manifold. This is probably what a poster saw for sale at
- Steeles in Oakland. They don't make them anymore and they
- were and still are expensive - new they were about $850 retail,
- and new units still in stock go for about $600. I've been using
- a triple unit(sans the plastic case) for some time now. I really
- like the unit, and since I am short, it is more comfortable than
- the 80s that bang my bum. I also like the weight distribution of
- the unit. You can adapt a Cousteau BC to accept the unit backpack,
- or you can build a simple backpack and harness and use it with a
- horsecollar BC. I'd be interested in buying another set if the
- price was reasonable.
