- This is a bit of a set-back. There are quite a few cities in Europe that
- cross borders, but the name on both ends is different.

- True, except for Berlin upto a few years ago there are no single-named
- examples. But let's take the spirit rather thanm the letter of the question.
- I.e. a single city that straddles borders (rather than two cities that
- grow together). I accept different names if they are only due to political
- reasons. In that case I know of two in Europe:
- Kerkrade(NL) - Herzogenrath(D)
- here the border is right in the middle of a fairly important street. It is
- two way both at the German and at the Dutch side, with a one foot high
- barrier in between (I presume that will change shortly, though I have no
- idea what they will do with southbound traffic on the Dutch side and
- northbound traffic on the German side, traffic signs depending on direction?).
- Baarle-Nassau(NL) - Baarle Hertog(B)
- A village rather than a city, but one of the strangest cases I know off.
- There are houses that straddle the border. There are people with both
- a Belgian and a Dutch mailbox. Moreover, the Belgian parts are enclaves
- within the Netherlands, but within the Belgian parts there are Dutch
- enclaves again. Smugglers paradise when the Dutch-Belgian border was
- still important, but that is about 35 years ago.
