- I would add that in many states, it is quite legal to launch a
- preemptive strike if an assault is reasonably expected. There
- was a more or less landmark case several years ago where a guy
- killed someone in anticipation of an attack. He was tried for
- murder and acquitted based on the fact that it was shown that
- he had reason to believe that a life threatening attack was
- imminent.
