- It certainly is.. What I've noticed is that well-trained martial artists
- are most of the time more relaxed in a potentially dangerous situation.
- They don't have the 'ow shit, he's gonna hit me' attitude (as in: 'ow shit,
- he's gonna hit me', BAM, 'glad I hit him first'). Trained MA's know that
- they will have the abillity to await the first strike, and they can spend
- a longer time to talk.
-
- I once was in a train in a space between two wagons, with four other persons.
- One of them was a little odd: nervous, and mumbling to himself. Then I saw
- a uniformed guy coming up in the wagon before me, checking tickets. The 'odd'
- guy also saw him, and immidiately pulled out a knife. He yelled 'I'm gonna
- cut him, I'm gonna cut him'. Two of the other people in the room rushed out
- the door, leaving me with the knifeman and another guy. I started talking to
- the knifeman: "hey, put away the knife, you're scaring people". The other
- fellow also talked to the knifeman, telling him to put away the knife, cause
- he was scaring everybody. We kept on talking to him, and finally he relaxed,
- and told us he didn't have money for a ticket. I took the knife out of
- his hand, and told him he'd better get of the train at the next station.
- It turned out to be his destination-station, so he didn't object. After he
- left, the uniformed guy came in, and told me and the other guy that he was
- very scared of the knifeman, and had called the railway-police over his
- radio. He was surprised that we had talked the man into giving us his knife.
- After a bit of talking, I discovered (surpise, surpise) that the other guy
- was a jujutsu-ka ! Small world, eh ?
-
- Anyway, what I was trying to say is that trained MA's stay calm in this sort
- situations. So you don't have to 'use' your art physically (eg punching) to
- be able to say 'I have experienced some very positive results because of my
- training'.
- Duh, does this still make any sense to anyone :-) ?
