- Hmmm, I saw one in a replica arms catalog and it was shaped as an octagon.
- So to build one, I quartered a 8" diameter hickory, located the octagon
- on each side, fixed a jack plane upside down in a vise, after rough shaping
- with a drawknife. An hour's work max. The only problem was the silly
- thing wanted to curve as it dried, but I was able to bend it to be pretty
- straight, using by B&D workmate.

- Did I answer the question. No, unless the quarterstaff refers to the
- fashioning of a staff from a quarter of wood. There are supposedly
- advantages to wood working a quarterpiece, stability and grain prettiness
- if I recall (strength?).

- BTW, round staffs/cudgels/bo/jos are more comfortable in your hand.
