- All this talk about the Romans beating the s*** out of the Celts. It is
- well documented that the Romans actually fought against a race known as
- the 'Picts'. At this time Scotland was known as Pictland (previously
- known as Alba). The Romans incidently changed the name to 'Caledonia'.
- The Romans also gave the Picts their name, which means 'Painted People'.
-
- There is any area in Scotland (north of the Forth) which is still
- referred to as 'The Kingdom of Fife'. This area was heavily populated
- with Picts and the people of today are still very independant.
-
- The Picts were a fierce lot which the Romans couldn't conquer, but they
- did integrate with the locals.
-
- Just to stir things up a bit; it is a *fact* that Pontious Pilate was born
- in the village of Fortingall in Perthshire.
