- You're arguing about jo's with a man named "Stave" ?? ;-)

- Your "jo" is the one used in traditional jodo, 50.25" long, and
- your explanation of why seems perfectly reasonable - longer than the
- katana, but otherwise as short (and therefore as light) as possible.

- Joel's "jo" is the one used in Aikido, and is (most often) 54" long.
- (The rule is that it should just fit under your armpit.)
- The movements of the jo in Aikido are based mostly on the spear
- (with possibly some naginata thrown in), not on jodo/jojutsu movements,
- so the aikijo is longer --
