  10. As a safety comment, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING the
  11. use of lithium perchlorate with methanol.  Lithium perchlorate
  12. is a strong oxidizer; mixed with a good fuel, such as methanol,
  13. one possible result is a potent and rather unstable explosive.
  14. Lithium perchlorate is also likely to eat one's torch wicks up,
  15. although I cannot (and will not) verify this through personal
  16. experience.

  18. A secondary possibility is that as the wick dries, particularly
  19. after repeated uses, lithium perchlorate will build up in and on
  20. the wick, turning it into explosive.

  22. All in all, I would *STRONGLY* recommend staying away from
  23. perchlorate/fuel mixtures.  They've maimed many people over
  24. the years.
