- Retriever, flushing dog, or pointing dog, I couldn't agree more
- with this point. All too often a person will see someone else's
- dog and like (or dislike) it and will brand an entire breed with
- the characteristics that he liked (or disliked) in that one
- individual.
-
- Certainly each breed shares certain characteristics--that's what
- makes them a breed--but each individual within that breed is just
- that--an individual.
-
- Between breeds and individuals, there are lines. Study your breed
- (and line) of choice before you decide based on the nature of any
- individual.

-
- Ah! But see NAHVDA (as Charlie lightly jabs back :)! Actually, I'm
- not really in to NAHVDA--I have a hard enough time training for
- adequate pointing behavior (the pointing's natural; the accompanying
- manners are taught) without worrying about all that other stuff
- (water work, tracking, fur & feather, ...).
-
- [For those unfamiliar with NAHVDA, it is the North American
- Versatile Hunting Dog Association.]
-
- But then, sitting in an old, nasty, *COLD* duck blind is not my
- favorite day afield, either. :)
