  23. My hunting partner picked up a shorthair about a year and a half ago
  24. and has had nothing but good luck with the dog.  Last fall he was
  25. fantastic on pheasants, stays close, and retreives the gaudy birds
  26. when we connect.  He also works good in the grouse woods but he tends
  27. to stray out a little farther for some reason.  I've also seen him
  28. retreive ducks out of near freezing water!

  30. My friend moved to Wyoming this past year and he claims Gib does well
  31. with the chukars (sp) and sage hens.  (As a matter of fact he called
  32. last night and did some more bragging about Gib after he talked me
  33. into an elk hunt next fall... permits gotta be in by Feb. 1, $355 for
  34. nonresidents) Last November while he was back here in MN to go deer
  35. hunting I snuck out of work early and went pheasant hunting with him
  36. and Gib.  There was a heavy (8+ inch) fresh snow and the walking was
  37. really tough.  We stopped in one spot to rest and Gib kept walking
  38. around this clump of weeds sniffing away.  At least 10 minutes later
  39. he locked up on point!  Sure enough, out pops this big old rooster who
  40. thought he had us fooled.

  42. The next day we were in the woods with him partridge hunting.  He
  43. stopped at the base of this tree and started looking around funny.
  44. Well this partridge walked that far and then flew up into the tree
  45. where he flushed while we were standing around with our hands in our
  46. pockets wondering what was wrong with Gib.  (He wasn't pointing, just
  47. standing there with this dumb look on his face.)

  49. The only problem with the dog is that his hair is too short for MN.
  50. He was dragging his unit around in the snow all day and looked very
  51. uncomfortable at the end of the day.  He also shivers when he stops
  52. for more than a minute.
