- #I think that Savage is.
-
- I believe that most of Savage's bolt action rifles are made in the U.S., but
- I know that some of the newer Model 99 lever action rifles are made in Spain.
-
- About 1 1/2 years ago, I went to an outdoor range that was hosting a gun show
- of sorts where actual firearms manufacturers were invited to display thier
- wares. You could even try out some of these firearms on the range for a
- nominal fee. A Savage rep was there and had a brand new Model 99 present.
- I inspected it closely and saw that it was made in Spain! I asked the rep
- about this, and the response given was that Savage was having some financial
- difficulties and could not afford to retool the U.S. Model 99 production at the
- current time. Therefore, they had to import Model 99s from a gunmaker in
- Spain who Savage sold some of the production rights to years ago.
