  23. I believe that most of Savage's bolt action rifles are made in the U.S., but 
  24. I know that some of the newer Model 99 lever action rifles are made in Spain.

  26. About 1 1/2 years ago, I went to an outdoor range that was hosting a gun show 
  27. of sorts where actual firearms manufacturers were invited to display thier 
  28. wares.  You could even try out some of these firearms on the range for a 
  29. nominal fee.  A Savage rep was there and had a brand new Model 99 present.  
  30. I inspected it closely and saw that it was made in Spain!  I asked the rep 
  31. about this, and the response given was that Savage was having some financial 
  32. difficulties and could not afford to retool the U.S. Model 99 production at the 
  33. current time.  Therefore, they had to import Model 99s from a gunmaker in 
  34. Spain who Savage sold some of the production rights to years ago.
