- I think the .40S&W designers thought that the large primer used on the
- earlier 10mm ACP didn't have quite enough clearance around the rim.

- I doubt that anyone makes nonstandard brass like you describe, especially
- since it would not necessarily be safe to use such cartridges (the firing
- pins, extractors, etc. are designed for a specific primer size and could
- conceivably malfunction with the wrong size).
