- # I've had a CZ-75 for a couple of years now. Mine was purchased from an
- # Army officer who bought it at one of the rod & gun clubs at a US base
- # in Germany - no importer's markings! The finish is the enamel type.
-
- I wonder if he got it at Vogelway AFB, where I got mine!
-
- # Overall I'm happy with it. The gun is more accurate in my hands than my
- # Glock 17, which is quite accurate. Field stripping is easy, and the
- # gun reliably feeds and fires hot ball and hot JHPs. The enamel finish
- # is holding up well. My only gripe is that at points of sliding contact
- # it does not gradually wear away like blueing or parkerizing, but sort of
- # chips away to bare metal. As these are the points that should be oiled
- # anyway it's not a big thing.
-
- You have one of the "tropical finish" models. It is a type of baked on
- enamel, and does chip very easily. I would get it stripped off and hard
- chromed or tefloned. This typically costs around $100, and is well worth
- it. Mine came parkerized, but I had it hard chromed while still in Germany.
-
- # The only gripe is that even with my large hands and long fingers I have
- # to fudge my grip to get to the slide release. This of course is because
- # the silly frame-mounted safety requires the slide release to be further
- # forward than optimum. If the safety were on the slide where it belongs
- # ( :) ), or better yet deleted, and the slide release moved back a bit,
- # the controls would be near perfect.
-
- Sheesh, one of the few 9mm's in the world with a real safety (and not a hammer
- dropping dongle), and you complain :-). Anyway, you can get one of the
- TZ-75 extended slide releases fitted to a CZ for minimal cost. It looks a
- bit like a dog leg, in that it puts the thumb pad lower and farther back on
- the gun.
-
- These are great guns. There was a good article about them in a recent Guns
- or American Handgunner magazine (anyone know the month/mag?). The double
- action on these guys is particularly smooth (some say due to the dual trigger
- bars inside). The "real" safety (downward to disengage, up for cocked and
- locked) and slim feeling grip (with 15 rounds in the mag) are big pluses.
- Incidentally, the gun feels so slim due to two things. One, there is a deep
- curve in the backstrap which reduces pull length. Two, the grips recess into
- the frame so as to add little bulk to the grip. However, the latter is
- negated when using wood or rubber grips, as they have to be quite a bit thicker
- for dimensional stability. Stick to the black plastic grips, or order a set
- if you decide on a model that comes with wood grips. You will be AMAZED at
- the difference (I could not believe that the TZ-75's came with wood or
- rubber grips, thus destroying the slim feel of the gun). For small handed
- shooters, this is one of the few high capacity 9mm's around that will feel
- comfortable.
-
- Feel free to email any particular questions you may have. The above is IMHO,
- direct flames elsewhere.
