- ##I recently purchases a glock 17. The instructions show how to break
- ##it down, but give no details on what to clean and what to lubricate.
- #
- #According to Kasler's book, very little lubrication is needed: A
- #drop rubbed along the barrel and slide/barrel contact area, a second
- #drop on the slide rails on the reciever, and a third drop on the
- #trigger bar. Soaking all parts in a solvent is recommended, as well
- #as minimal cleaning of the bore with a patch.
- #
- #Personally, I field strip mine, hose all the parts down with a spray
- #cleaner, run a brush dipped in mild solvent down the barrel, followed
- #by patches until the come out clean and then lubricate as above. In
- #general, I ssupect I carry all the above steps to excess: I've heard
- #stories of people who do far less, without problems.
-
- My Glock gets a very strict regimen of cleaning:
-
- 1. Shoot Glock
- 2. Shoot Glock
- 3. Shoot Glock
- 4. Shoot Glock
-
- ..
-
- 2000. Clean Glock (whether it needs it or not)
- 2001. Shoot Glock
- 2002. Shoot Glock
- etc.
-
- You get the point. Glocks are extrememly low maintenance guns. I wipe
- the internal part off with a rag an add a little oil and reassemble. If
- a brush goes down the bore, it is usually a mistake made while cleaning the
- chamber.
