- Haven't been to the tables in 3 years.
-
- Haven't posted here in a long time.
-
- It's raining HARD in California, time to end 3 droughts.
-
- I planned to end up at Sharkeys in Gardnerville last weekend after
- about of x-country skiing, but a highway-closing accident by the
- friend I was supposed to meet up there kept me around South Shore
- most of the evening trying to find him instead of tending to the
- more frivolous business of playing 22.
-
- Still I had a wonderful, full, evening of fun at Harveys, just a
- skid mark across the California border.
-
- Before I figured out that my buddy had shipped off for home, I
- donated about $60 to this nice place just trying to get what I
- thought would be my only action. After that, I found my heaven.
-
- Harvey's on Monday night, Jan 18 had a one deck game, with
- mostly poor penetration, but some exciting episodes. 2 thru
- 5$ minimum.
-
- After the panic of thinking I wouldn't be there very long due
- to maybe having to help out my best friend, I settled into a
- ruthless system of break-even, low risk of ruin, high alcohol, no
- sleep night.
-
- One dealer knew i was counting and joked at one point about how
- I always nailed the insurance. She had been tipped enough not to
- knock me out. All the dealers seemed to be able to count as well
- as I did, though. Many card first deals always got re-shuffled.
-
- I had chances to win big. Twice, the count went through the roof
- and 2 or 3 other players at the table left after the dealer drew
- 6 cards to 21. I stayed at a great count to basically break even,
- but the CALL was right. those were my only really high bets of the
- night. It's still gambling.
-
- I noted my tips this time. The tips made up for the money I lost
- plus my meals over the 12 hours.
-
- Kinda makes you want to say: hmmmmmmm!
-
- Still, better to the working stiffs.
-
- The staff were all ragging on the gaudy carpeting that was being
- installed that night.
-
- 'It's a CASINO for cripes sake! Whaddaya expect?' said I.
