- OK, here are the results of my basic strategy analysis.
- First, always double medium or high pairs, trips, two-pairs, and quads.
- Also, always double on 4 to a flush.
- Never double low pairs; double no-pairs only if there is potential for a
- straight.
- Also, never double a one-way straight unless it is AKQJ, and then only
- no 10 is showing and fewer than 1/3 of the others' cards are AKQJ.
-
- As to open-end straights, they have "starting value" as follows:
- 2345 +0
- 3456 +3
- 4567 +6
- 5678 +9
- 6789 +12
- 789T +12
- 89TJ +15
- 9TJQ +18
- TJQK +21
- Subtract 6 for every card held by another player that would fill the
- straight, 1 for every card that would give you a push, and 2 for every card
- that would give you a winning pair; add 1 for every card that would be worth-
- less to your hand. Double on +, don't on -, and flip a coin on 0.
- (The same method works for high one-way straights; start at 0 for AKQJ and
- at -3 for AKQT, AKJT, AQJT, and KQJ9.)
-
- I haven't worked out expectation yet.
