- This might be a touchy subject with some, but:
-
- I've come across a Barber Half that appears to be just
- a slight rub away from mint state. I say "appears" because
- the thing is covered with gunk of some sort. (It looks like
- some kind of glue or varnish.) So, my question is, has anyone
- had experience with cleaning silver coins? Ordinarily, I
- wouldn't consider it but trust me when I say that this coin
- would almost be better off melted down for bullion than left
- the way it is now. Any advice on what products to use or what
- products to avoid? Can I get some sort of solvent from the
- local H/W shop, or should I stick with products which can only
- be obtained from coin supply dealers?
