  11. This might be a touchy subject with some, but:

  13. I've come across a Barber Half that appears to be just
  14. a slight rub away from mint state. I say "appears" because
  15. the thing is covered with gunk of some sort. (It looks like
  16. some kind of glue or varnish.) So, my question is, has anyone
  17. had experience with cleaning silver coins? Ordinarily, I
  18. wouldn't consider it but trust me when I say that this coin
  19. would almost be better off melted down for bullion than left
  20. the way it is now. Any advice on what products to use or what
  21. products to avoid? Can I get some sort of solvent from the
  22. local H/W shop, or should I stick with products which can only
  23. be obtained from coin supply dealers?
