- I think the idea of a small recorder to tape your notes is a good one if
- one of your primary interests is the description of unidentified birds.
- As someone else mentioned, you can observe and record at the same time.
- On the other hand, a drawing is better in documenting a rarity. One
- warning, its awfully easy to never get around to transcribing field
- notes off the tape for a permanent record.

- I have had some success with 5"X7" note cards and a small or cutdown
- clipboard (one with a low profile clip). Using these eliminates the
- problem of losing notes made on previous trips. Date each on the top
- and keep them in a file box.
