- It's not the engine that's the problem it's the LOOKS :-( This however
- may be rectified with the new XJ on the way.

- The XJ6 series III uses a twin overhead cam 4.2 litre in-line 6 cylinder
- engine called the XK engine. This engine has a long history first appearing
- in 1949 in the now-famous XK-120.

- It was replaced in 1987 with the XJ40 powered by a 4.0 litre AJ engine.
- The 4.2 is more torquey but the 4.0 is more clean and economical and has
- more power. The upshot is the XJ40 "feels" slower off the mark but is
- quicker than the XJ6 (series III).
