  22. It's not the engine that's the problem it's the LOOKS :-(  This however
  23. may be rectified with the new XJ on the way.

  25. The XJ6 series III uses a twin overhead cam 4.2 litre in-line 6 cylinder 
  26. engine called the XK engine.  This engine has a long history first appearing 
  27. in 1949 in the now-famous XK-120. 
  28.  
  29. It was replaced in 1987 with the XJ40 powered by a 4.0 litre AJ engine.
  30. The 4.2 is more torquey but the 4.0 is more clean and economical and has
  31. more power. The upshot is the XJ40 "feels" slower off the mark but is
  32. quicker than the XJ6 (series III).
