- OOH! I forgot about those! The BEST VW ad has got to be the one where the
- Golf/Jetta is going around a skidpad, tires a-screaming, with "technicians"
- describing the perimeter of the circle, and the car's bumper missing their
- shins by maybe a foot. Then, by some sudden signal, the "technicians" all
- take a very precise, Germanic step INWARDS at the same time. Very very neat.
-
- Apparently though, those ads were done with smoke and mirrors. In one ad,
- where the Golf/Jetta stops within inches of a "technician," it really was
- filmed like this:
-
- OVERHEAD VIEW:
-
- _________
- | Jetta | ========================>
- ---------
- X <--Technician
-
- Seen from the side, this was very convincing. A good thing they shot it like
- this too, because in the first few takes, the Jetta would have killed the
- "technician" if he had been in the line of travel.
-
- I still don't know how (or if) they faked the "skidpad" commercial. It looked
- so real.....
