- Well, I have always washed the engines of the cars I have owned
- at least twice a year. Have NEVER had a problem. I get one of those
- GUNK sprays they sell at the auto-parts store.

- Here is what I do (most is in the instructions for the spray):

- 1) warm the engine up for at least 20 mins.
- 2) shut it off, seal air intake...
- 3) spray the stuff..
- 4) 5 mins. later rinse it all off real well..
- 5) open up the intake again, and run the engine for another 20 mins.

- I have never had any premature rust, if anything I have had many
- mechanics/friends say that my engine looks like new. It also makes the car
- easier/less messy to work on...

- Weird, but I thought this was a 'normal' thing to do to cars. After
- reading some of this thread I realize that this is not true...
