  20. Weeeellllll......  The only time I lost a cat, I had symptoms not unlike yours,
  21. except the engine had 120K miles at the time.  I thought it was the injectors,
  22. as this particular car had had more than its share of injector/computer
  23. trouble.  So, one day, I opened the hood with the engine running.  At idle.
  24. It had been running, at idle only, for about 3 minutes when I noticed the ex-
  25. haust manifold was glowing.  I don't mean like some cars do after running hard,
  26. either.  This was a FWD Olds 98, and I swear the manifold was getting near
  27. meltdown temperature, or at least it looked like it, with that lovely blinding
  28. orange color.....

  30. Short of that, I think the diagnostics (if your car has EFI) can figure out,
  31. by the throttle/airmass/rpm/whatever if there is an exhaust blockage.
